About Austin Bennett + contact info
Originally trained as a dancer, Austin Bennett was a member of the Royal Ballet Company with whom he performed solo and principal roles. He went on to work within the recorded music industry before moving from London to Shropshire to concentrate on his work as a sculptor. Controlled, figurative commissions apart, the main thrust of his work centres upon a free interpretation of the human form where suggestion and emphasis, rather than strict representation, have been the motivation. His works are usually cast in bronze.
His work has been exhibited at galleries in the UK and abroad and examples are in the collections of the National Portrait Gallery, The Royal Opera House, Harewood House and the Victoria and Albert Museum amongst others. His bust of Viscount Bearstead, commissioned by Shell International, was unveiled by Her Majesty the Queen as part of their centenary celebrations.
